Synopsis
In this world-premiere adaptation of Jane Austen’s first completed novel, a typical heroine Catherine Morland (a plain, small-town girl) meets and falls in love with Henry Tilney (a handsome clergyman) while at his family’s country estate in Bath. But Catherine has read too many Gothic romances, and her penchant for the sensational leads to misunderstandings in matters of the heart. With just the right mix of humor, romance, and happy endings, Austen’s shimmering novel comes to life on stage (featuring Austen herself as a character!) in this production that continues STC’s commitment to produce new works by local artists.
