STC presents the gothic tale of a scientist who oversteps the bounds of conscience and a creature brought to life in an alien world attempting to escape the torture of his solitude. Directed by Michael Laun (STC Producing Director) and starring Bay Area actor William Elsman (last seen at STC as Sherlock Holmes) as Dr. Frankenstein. This production sets the play in the year 1816 – the same year (almost 200 years ago) that Mary Shelley created her novel of tense and steadily mounting horror. The play features Ed Gyles Jr. as The Creature along with local favorites Jerry Lee and Brittni Barger. Frankenstein is the opening production of the theatre’s 2011-2012 season of Mystery, Music and Mayhem.

"It's About Giving Life"
When Mary Shelley wrote “Frankenstein” in the summer of 1816, her ideas about giving life came from the new frontiers in science, a dream, her own fascination with life… and a friend’s challenge to write a ghost story.
Her book was an immediate success. Who could fathom Dr. Victor Frankenstein creating life from body parts of the deceased? And who could believe that this tale had come from the pen and imagination of a 19-year old woman?
Some 195 years later, the unimaginable miracle of giving life, has become a reality. We, at Sacramento Theatre Company, couldn’t pass up an opportunity to collaborate with the Golden State Donor Services to advance awareness about organ and tissue donation. Here are facts from Tracy Bryan, Director of Public Relations for Golden State Donor Services:
“You can save up to eight lives as an organ donor and improve another 50 lives as a tissue donor. Simply check “YES!” when you apply for or renew your driver’s license. Or go to: www.donateLIFEcalifornia.org. It takes just seconds to sign up on the Donate Life California Organ and Tissue Donor Registry, and would mean years of life for the more than 21,000 Californians waiting for a second chance. It’s about giving life.”
Wouldn’t Mary Shelley be astonished by how far we’ve come?
If you are a registered donor, STC would like to say “thank you” with a special Pink Dot Ticket offer. By showing us the “Donor” notation on your driver’s license, you can purchase up to two tickets to “Frankenstein” at the Pink Dot price of $15 each. You may call ahead to purchase but be sure to show the Pink Dot at Will Call. If you are not yet a donor, you can register at the performances and receive a voucher good for two $15 tickets to a future show, subject to availability.
